My pressed botanical art is a multi-step process that begins with preserving the flowers. They are placed in a natural wood flower press and left to dry for approximately 2 weeks. The next step involves selecting a background that complements the colors and textures of the preserved flowers. When the flowers are dry and ready for use, they are arranged on a background in a design that recreates their natural place in the garden. Some botanicals swing and sway in the wind (painted feather and cleome), some stand tall (delphinium, larkspur), and others wish to cluster or remain close to the ground (alyssum, forget-me-not). The intent is to capture that natural tendency in an artwork so the summer garden can be enjoyed in any season for many years to come.
